Genesis Resveratrol

Christians: IN THE BEGINNING, THE GODDESS created the heavens and the Earth; and the Earth was…..?

…without form, and void, and darkness was upon theface of the deep, and the Spirit of the Goddess moved upon the face of the waters, and the Goddess said, "Let there be Light." and there was Light…….

Christians: how does this make you feel? Do you agree that this version of Genesis 1:1-2 is valid or would you say it is not valid?
hey you so-called Christians who are objecting to this: I thought you all said that God was neither male nor female! Some of you have said right here that God can be referred to as either gender. I guess that was just another bunch of really trustworthy Christian "truth" huh???????
YEA! THE PAGAN CAVALRY RIDES OVER THE HILL!!!!

Morgana, I LOVE it. And Luci, I LOVE Starhawk's creation story very much. TELL it ! PLEASE? I can NEVER hear it enough. Heck, I'm just going to read it myself. LOL

I think it's astounding that the "Good Christians" went immediately on the offensive here. They think NOTHING of ridiculing OTHER Religions but can't take it when someone asks a simple question when thay are called to task on something that they HAVE been claiming all along. WELL, which IS it? Is God Female, Male, both, or neither? Make up your minds, PLEASE!

I do NOT see this as a ridicule of the Religions of the God of Abraham at all. Just a request for clarification. WHAT and WHO is God?

Additionally I noticed that it was exclusively MALE Christians who went on the attack about this question. WHY is that? Does the idea that the Divine might actually BE female rattle your patriarchal views of things as they ":should be"? For your information, I AM a male and I find nothing upsetting about the idea of Deity being Female. I pray to her ALL the time (as I pray to the concept of the Male God as well). I find nothing at all inconguent with Deity being female in gender whatsoever, and am quite comfortable with it, completely.

How does it make me feel? That you are not reading the bible correctly. It's God not Goddess.

God transcends male and female but goddess is definitely female. It does not fit the Elohim of Genesis.

How pathetic; another disgruntled, insecure feminist trying to rewrite HIStory (not HERstory).

Not a Christian, but as a Wiccan I can say that it looks fine to me. But I still don't believe in the Creationist story, even with a feminist bent.

    Your interpretation is not valid.

I am furious…….The original version from Genesis is valid because God is male.

    "MOTHER" earth is female.

Nope…not valid. God is referred to as

    1. God the FATHER
    2. God the SON
    3. God the Holy Spirit which is occasionally referenced by a male pronoun.

God has identified Himself as a male aspect. This is based on a belief in the inerrancy of scripture and that all scripture is inspired by God.

It makes me feel as if you are not intelligent enough to see that God the FATHER is not and cannot be female. Can't you read? Other than that, it makes me think that maybe you are foolish enough to be wiccan.

    No, no, no.

EVERYONE knows that rimefrost formed in the Ginnungagap, and that from it Adhumla, the primordial Cow, licked Ymir the Frost Giant free, and that Odhinn, Veli, and Ve, who were born of the giants that sprouted from Ymir's armpits, killed and dismembered Ymir and formed the world from his corpse!

. . . . because obviously, a universe this orderly and complex can only be explained by a giant and a cow. o_O

Actually, I trust scientists with my science, and my ancestors, godhs, and Disr with my spirituality. But I did almost choke on my sushi laughing at the fundie responses to your minor "edit." Well done!

Goddess it is! Lady M I like your version better (smile) As one who honors God/Goddess I must say that when I was christian I believed that God was neither male nor female…so in short I do accept the duality(male/female God/Goddess).

The verse sounds good to me! And you make a good point. Using the term Goddess doesn't change the meaning of the text. But I'm sure most Christians won't agree—if they only knew that before Christianity was made the "law" — it was the Goddess who ruled!! Goddess Bless You!

Don't bother me. The story was related by Moses so he calls the creator male. Jesus calls him father but I guess it doesn't matter. God is spirit so I dunno. I guess if God cares I figure it out.

I always heard that the Goddess breathed the entire universe into existence by just uttering the single word, "Be".
