The focus of Ahmed’s academic research has been in developing therapeutic programs for chronic human conditions. With post-graduate training in molecular genetics at Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, NJ, his research interest has been exclusively on developing gene therapy protocols for chronic diseases, such as neurodegeneration, coronary heart disease and stroke. As a faculty member at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, his work led to delivery of specific genes to the spinal cord and brain.
