My elder brother is a genesis obsessive…
Are you sure you don't mean "playing records upstairs while he watched tv, I didn't spend the time I should"? If so, that was 'All Of My Life' from PC's But Seriously album. Here's the rest:

But jacob said "swear me your birthright as of this day ".
and esau said "look, i am about to die so what is this birthright to me ?"
then jacob said "swear to me as of this day " so he swore to him and sold his birthright to jacob.
and jacob gave esau bread and stew of lentils then he ate and drank , arose , and went his way,
thus esau despised his birthright.
can someone explain what this means ? what does birthright mean?

In Israel the birthright included the double portion of the inheritance and the privilege of priesthood

Ok it starts :
20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded [a] to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father's nakedness.
Then it just goes right to:
24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said,
"Cursed be Canaan!
The lowest of slaves
will he be to his brothers." ————–
What did Ham do? it looks like all he did was went outside and told his brothers "hey, dad's naked and drunk in the tent hahaha" - and what does Ham's son Canaan have to do with it? why does he have to be a slave because of it??
ThePeskyWabbit - I guess it depends on what version of the bible you read - I took this from the New International Version - and it clearly say SLAVE in verses 26 and 27 it clearly say SLAVE two more times ———————
and my question is about the logic - and why is Canaan being punished here — he doesn't even have any speaking parts he is only spoken of - what did he do wrong?

He had sex with his mother and had a son named Canaan.
Know also that it was Noah who cursed him not God!

37And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.
38And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.
39And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.
If you read the account you will see later on that God shows Jacob that it was His blessing, not Jacob's playing around that caused the flocks to conceive so that Jacob's part of the flock increased and Laban's decreased.

I read one today where the person said "you believe in electricity but don't see it, why not god?"
How can someone think that's a sensible argument?
Seriously, how smart can that person be? How do they make it through a day without stepping in an elevator shaft or in front of a bus?

Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father.”
33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab [g] ; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi [h] ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.
There is nothing to explain away and this is not an embarrassing passage.

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Lot was not a prophet. As to how he became involved it was actually his daughters raping him. If I get a girl drunk and then when she is incapacitated have sex with her I will be going to prison. Lot's only sin in this was getting drunk to begin with.
