How do you justify Lot's behavior towards his daughters?

Genesis 19:35-38 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. (36) Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. (37) And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. (38) And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

Personally, I have never been that drunk and can’t justify it myself, what about you?

Actually, for the times, it was a pretty good piece of propaganda. As an explanation for the existence of a couple of the early Hebrews’ most aggresive neighbors, it’s effective.

Of course they’re bad guys, look how they got started. I mean, incest with a drunk!?

As a piece of history it belongs with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty or possibly the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
