How do you justify Lot's behavior towards his daughters?

Genesis 19:35-38 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. (36) Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. (37) And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. (38) And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

Personally, I have never been that drunk and can’t justify it myself, what about you?

Actually, for the times, it was a pretty good piece of propaganda. As an explanation for the existence of a couple of the early Hebrews’ most aggresive neighbors, it’s effective.

Of course they’re bad guys, look how they got started. I mean, incest with a drunk!?

As a piece of history it belongs with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty or possibly the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Why do some Christians think Jesus didn't drink alcohol?

It says in the Bible that Jesus drank wine. It also says people got drunk in the Bible. I have heard many people say that Jesus drank grape juice. I think he drank wine with alcohol I like to have a beer or two on my nights off. I don't get drunk and my wife tells me that drinking is a sin. I know it says in the Bible not to get drunk but I don't think drinking is a sin unless you let it control your life.

Yes, I think Jesus drank wine with alcohol. But the bible says not to abuse of alcohol. Everything in moderation. Many of the Jewish leaders talked bad about Jesus because he will go out and eat and drink with regular people. When the bible says "drink" here, it means alcoholic drinks. Even doctors say that 2 glasses of alcoholic wine a day is good for your health. The bible knew this more than 2000 years ago.

if jesus hates alcohol consumption why did he make wine?

those of you who come up with the grape juice foolishness, why would your always correct bible use the word "wine" when it meant juice?

My father, who was Methodist, felt that had Jesus been Methodist, Leonardo would have had to repaint the Last Supper with Donald Duck Grape Juice and Wonder Bread.

The water into wine miracle?

Sunday, I taught my class of 4th - 6th graders about the wedding at Cana.
Our church is one of those that does not advocate drinking alcohol.

One of the kids wanted to know if it was real wine, or if it was grape juice. I said that my Bible said it was wine, so I felt that it was wine.

Another kid said he has been taught that our body is God's temple & we need to keep it free of alcohol and tobacco. So why was Jesus turning water into wine for people? Still another wanted to know if Jesus had ever been drunk.

I told the kids that in that part of the world at that time, wine was what was commonly drunk at meals. I also said my Bible does not tell me that Jesus was ever drunk, so I think not.

Sharp kids in my class. Do you think their parents will be angry over my answers?
Vince …. I teach whichever lesson the teacher's book they gave me to work from instructs me to.

The wedding at Cana was important because it was Jesus first miracle. And it was seeing this miracle happen that opened the desciples' eyes. Until they saw this, they thought Jesus was just another prophet.

I doubt that Soddam and Gomorrah will be outlined to be taught at this level. If it is, I suppose I'd teach it (carefully).

How could they—you told them what the Bible said.

what are mormon kids told about alcohol?

ok. so my friend recently tried to convince me that alcohol is chemically addictive. i know that it's not but it showed me that he has been sorely misinformed by his parents and his church, the LDS. i was wondering if any other mormons could explain why alcohol is prohibited and what is chemically and physically addictive about it. And i know mormons say jesus drank grape juice, but why does the bible say it's dangerous to drink too much grape juice? I patiently await answers.
let me correct myself. it can be addictive if it is abused. yet this is still a psychological addiction. and no one has told me what chemicals are put into alcohol to actually make you addicted. plus what about the health benefits of consuming it in moderation? hell everything is dangerous if you eat too much of it
well….i'm not surprised i guess i walked into this one. asking a bunch of mormons about something they feel so strongly about. but don't try to deny there is nothing wrong with responsible adults drinking a glass of wine with dinner.
alright then explain the millions of other people in the world who drink alcohol and aren't addicted

ANYTHING can be addictive! I know people addicted to Mountain Dew, food, sex, yahoo answers, myspace. Alcohol CAN be bad for you if over-used, but so can green jell-o! Alchohol can be GOOD for you if you used in moderation: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/1494043.stm

how many people think that drinking is a sin?

prove your point ,many verses in the bible state of what to do and what not to do when drinking.do would those verses be neceary if drinking is a sin then what sthe points of those verses. jesus also turned water into wine and it was not grape juice.
Numbers 6:3
he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins.
this separates wine from grape juice.
I believe religious people did this in the 1900’s during the Prohibition period and preached this around the world. whats your say on this. There’s a difference about a bible believer and a religious fanatic. I believe the bible and everything it says. so please give me your say on it. you think you got something contradicting to what i say. prove your point with some research.

The Numbers passage deals specifically with the vow of the Nazirite. It doesn’t apply to the people at large.

Further, it is not drinking that is a sin, but getting drunk. As it is written: “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18)

There are other warnings about those who are given to wine. We are also told not to be mastered by anything other than God. (Cf. I Corinthians 6:12)

I want to be a Luddite?

Is there a Bible or something? How can I Luddy without giving up the juice?

Luddism is the belief that labour-saving technologies (i.e., technologies that increase output-per-worker) increase unemployment by reducing demand for labour. It is not a type of anarcho-primitivism, which says that ALL technology is bad, it merely believes that the negative effects of rapid technological advancement outweighs the positive effects

The theory falls flat on its face because, nearly two centuries after the Luddite movement was founded, unemployment in most developed countries has remained at a steady, economically healthy level.

Luddism was also criticised for being little more than a paramilitary group, not primarily interested in anything ideological, but mere looking to protect themselves financially though violence.

But hey, don't let facts get in your way…
